Walkers

"Some gifts are passed down. Some are carried alone."

Official Trailer

Logline

Across generations of gifted women who can 'walk' the dead to the other side, a forbidden love on a pre-Civil War Louisiana plantation and her present-day descendant must each reckon with the cost of a sacred calling that grows stronger, and lonelier, with every soul they carry.

Synopsis

Walkers is the story of a family of strong women born with a God-given ability to escort the dead across to the other side, to 'walk' between the natural and supernatural worlds, a gift handed down through the generations and growing more powerful with each one. The saga braids two lives: Veronique Sossamine, enslaved by the powerful Montblanc family on a majestic San Christian Parish plantation in pre-Civil War Louisiana, and Marie-Andre 'Andy' Sossamine Blake, her great-great-granddaughter in present-day Saratoga. It begins when Veronique is called to the main house to ease the passing of Jenessa, Beau Montblanc Jr.'s beloved nanny, and a forbidden love ignites between Veronique and Beau, a love his manipulative mother will stop at nothing to destroy. As Mrs. Montblanc schemes to marry Veronique off to the brutal Slebin, Veronique discovers her power's deepest flaw, that under extreme emotion it cannot be controlled, and is forced into impossible choices between flesh and spirit, love and calling. Guided by Lottie, the woman who raised her ('Shoppity hoop!'), Veronique sacrifices everything to honor a purpose larger than herself. Generations later, Andy inherits the same gift, and the same burden, as the bloodline's story comes full circle. Sweeping, supernatural, and devastating, Walkers is a love story about the toll of a sacred calling and the unbreakable line of women who answer it.

The World

Two worlds in two eras: the candlelit grandeur and brutal injustice of a pre-Civil War Louisiana plantation in San Christian Parish, and present-day Saratoga, bridged by the ethereal threshold the Sossamine women cross when they walk a soul over, offering haunting glimpses of what waits on the other side, and the toll each passage takes on the one who carries it.

Why It Sells

  • A dual-timeline generational saga, one bloodline of gifted women, their power growing with each generation.
  • A rich, original supernatural mythology: the act of 'walking' the dead, its rules, its flaws, and its cost.
  • A sweeping forbidden romance set against the brutal backdrop of slavery and Southern manipulation.
  • A powerful matriarchal lineage, Veronique, Lottie, and present-day Andy, anchored by fierce, complex women.
  • Genuine moral weight, the classic struggle between flesh and spirit, and sacrifice for the good of the whole.
  • Goosebump glimpses of the afterlife, including what awaits both the beloved and the truly evil when they cross.
